A short tour of 2017 movie releases !

With a new year beginning, we often think about making good resolutions. Play sports, read more, spend less time on the internet ... All these ideas are quite good but what if the true “good resolution” for 2017 would be to get an unlimited theater subscription?

With a new year beginning, we often think about making good resolutions. Play sports, read more, spend less time on the internet ... All these ideas are quite good but what if the true “good resolution” for 2017 would be to get an unlimited theater subscription?

The more time passes, the more I feel that for each movie that will come out, the studios talk about it years ahead (I hardly exaggerate), provide a dozen trailers, and tryi to lure us with lots and lots of "appearance of that person in the movie! Boooouuum! ". And in the end we never retain what are the movies that interest us, who will play in it, and especially when they go out. So, just to prepare this new year -that seems to be pretty strong in movies- I decided to make a small summary of the most anticipated films of 2017 (obviously this is a non-exhaustive list, somewhat subjective but I hope you will like it!).

The Bye Bye Man, on January 13th

I do not know about you, but personally this is one of horror film trailers that tempted me most in recent months. It is not clear whether we are in terror, horror, or in a very bizarre thriller, but this film seems completely insane. Directed by Stacy Title, which is not in his debut in the horror genre, with Douglas Smith, Lucien Laviscount and Cressida Bonas, I think The Bye Bye Man will long follow our nightmares ...

Rings, on February 1st

Ah ... The Ring, one of the best horror movies that I have ever seen. And, obviously, it comes from Japan! For the fans, 2017 is your year because here as a new sequel to the 2002 film, but an American version. Paramount offers a new approach to this creepypasta, since apparently we will find the original video (which kills you seven days after viewing) hides in fact another video ! Directed by F. Javier Gutierrez, starring Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe and Vincent D'Onofrio, Rings is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated horror films of the year!

The Lego Batman Movie, on February 8th

Well, for once I will not comment too much because I'm not a fan of the principle of adapting something in a Lego version, but I have to say that animated film focused on Batman looks rather interesting. In addition, it seems that we finally have a version a little "funnier" of the Dark Knight, which is likely to change its previous versions. Directed by Chris McKay, who is none other than the creator of The Lego Movie, and versions "Robot Chicken" Star Wars, the voice actors are Ralph Fiennes, Rosario Dawson, Jenny Slate, Mariah Carey and Michael Cera. For the rest of the cast, this will remain a surprise!

Underworld: Blood Wars, on February 15th

And here is the fifth and final chapter of the war between vampires and lycans led by the legendary Selene (Kate Beckinsale). Upon direction, we have Anna Foerster, who is more accustomed to the series, since it has made numerous episodes of Criminal Minds and American Wives. The cast does not change, with Theo James, Tobias Menzies, Lara Pulver, Charles Dance and many others. In short, we can expect a very good film, especially if one is a follower of the saga!

Logan, on March 1st

Many wait impatiently, many believe that this is a way to make more money on a story that we know by heart ... For my part, I prefer not to say, although I think that Marvel should spend more money to make films about heroes that we do not really know (Black Widow, Hawkeye, I love you !) rather than just another part of a character we've seen and reviewed dozens of times. Directed by James Mangold, obviously with Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen and Boyd Holbrook, Logan will be in theaters on March 1st, 2017, and appears to be much darker than the other films on the character from the adamantium claws ...

Kong : Skull Island, on March 8th

No need to introduce this new movie around the giant gorilla, since we are already talking about it since last July, and that information rained almost as much as for future Marvel films. But for those who missed the San Diego ComicCon, you have to know that this is talking about the origins of the monster, and that the film appears explosive, so thanks to the team behind the camera as actors. Upon direction, we have Jordan Vogt-Roberts (You're the worst, Death Valley, etc), and the cast, Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John Goodman, Samuel L. Jackson, Corey Hawkins, and many more! In short, a good action movie to begin spring smoothly!

Beauty and the Beast, March 22th

Ahhh ... Another live-action Disney, and adapted from one of their oldest movies ( "a tale as old as time," as we say!). Beauty and the Beast is a tale that needs no introduction, but one can say that this new version seems totally fabulous. For someone who cared very little original tale, I must admit that the trailer really conquered me, and I'll gladly see this new film Disney. The film is directed by Bill Condon, to whom we owe the Twilight movies (which were very well made, even if you didn’t like the plot), but also The Fifth Estate (2013) and Mr. Holmes (2016). The cast include the talented Emma Watson, but also the beautiful Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Ian McKellen, Ewan McGregor and Emma Thompson. A story we think we know but we could rediscover with pleasure for a month totally magical!

Ghost in the Shell, on March 29th

If Disney is entering a "rehabilitate our animated live-action movies" phase, be aware that other Hollywood studios have recently thought "what if we took the biggest manga/anime phenomena and we will do it in live-action movies ?". Also, Ghost in the Shell is surely one of the first steps of American cinema in the world of manga and anime since 2018 should give us live-action (Hollywood, of course, since this kind of live-action are already "made in Japan") monuments such as Death Note, Naruto, and even, perhaps, Dragon Ball. For the others, we do not know more, but in terms of Ghost in the Shell, we already know that it will be directed by Rupert Sanders, with an exceptional and surprising cast : Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbæk Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, etc. Some are pessimistic for this adaptation, but personally I think that one can not judge without having seen, so remain positive till March!

Power Rangers on April 5th

Here, you enter the innovation, so to speak. Power Rangers is a little series we loved watching when we were kids but we never really followed since our channels did not give us the episodes in order. Finally, after several films that have not often crossed our borders, here is a "real" blockbuster Power Rangers, which promises to be quite nice! At the controls we have Dean Israelite, a newcomer who had already conquered us with Project Almanac in 2015. The cast is composed of new faces, as Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler, Naomi Scott, Becky G, and Ludi Lin but also big names like Bryan Cranston! I do not know about you, but personally I expect this film with great anticipation!

Guardians of the Galaxy 2, April 26th

They are baaaaaack and promise even more fun and action than in the first movie! That little Marvel crazy saga returns and the team of the Guardians is complete to move the Galaxy. The trailer doesn’t promise anything concrete, but we can at least expect that Marvel has paved the way for The Avengers: Infinity War, so we will probably see Doctor Strange, Iron Man or Thor even in this new movie. I think it isn’t worth recalling the cast, but it is clear that this film will be directed, like the first, by James Gunn. Otherwise, I would have only a word: ahhh ahh ahh ahh ahh, I'm hooked on a feeling, and I'm high on believin '... that you're in love with me ... doo doo doo doo ...

Alien: Covenant, May 10th

So if I understand it would be the result of Prometheus ... but not really the prequel to Alien? Finally, the synopsis says this: The crew of the Covenant ship to a planet located in the depths of our galaxy, discovering what they think is a still untouched paradise. This is actually a dark and dangerous world, hiding a terrible threat. They'll try anything to escape. This is much like a subtle mix between the two, don’t you think? But no way to know what year it is, so we can not really locate us chronologically. But in May we’ll probably understand everything. The film is obviously signed Ridley Scott and the cast, is still incredible : Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, etc.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Revenge of Salazar, May 24th

Drink up me hearties, yo ho! Captain Jack will also be back in 2017 for a fifth film ...? Already? Well, anyway the legendary pirate takes us on his Black Pearl to new adventures, and he will face new monsters and new enemies. We will also see the return of Captain Turner, as Orlando Bloom appears in the cast, but no information about a potential return of Keira Knightley, aka Elizabeth Swan-Turner. In this sequel, we'll meet Captain Brand, played by Javier Bardem, but also the son of Elizabeth and Will, Henry Turner, played by Brenton Thwaites and Carina Smyth, played by Kaya Scodelario. The film is directed by Joachim Ronning (Bandidas in 2001, Marco Polo, in 2014) and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki in 2015 and Marco Polo in 2014), and of course produced by the Disney studios. We can still expect an exceptional adventure!

Wonder Woman, June 7th

Ahhh ... Those who have followed my various articles since last July know how much I love this character, its interpretation by the talented Gal Gadot, and how I look forward to this film. After Batman v Superman, I was totally conquered by Diana Price, and I already told myself that superhero could be an exceptional solo movie. And it seems that Warner has heard my prayers, because Wonder Woman arrives in our cinemas on June 7th. Unsurprisingly, the film will make us discover the origins of the legendary warrior, and how she entered the world of humans. This film is signed Patty Jenkins and the cast of course includes Gal Gadot, but also Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston and David Thewlis. For once, DC promises a great movie, and hopefully it lives up to our expectations!

World War Z 2, June 7

Following Gerry Lane adventures, aka Brad Pitt, to find a cure to the zombie virus that strikes the planet. We do not know more at the moment, unfortunately, otherwise it will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, who signed Penny Dreadful in 2014, and very recently, Few minutes after Midnight. We can therefore expect a good second film, which will be quite loyal to World War Z by Marc Foster. Let us prepare nightmares again about zombies!

Transformers: The Last Knight, June 21st

And here is, I think, the latest movie of the Transformers saga, signed by Michael Bay. We always follow the war between humans and machines, and it promises to be unprecedented! The cast, of course, includes Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Isabela Moner, Josh Duhamel, Laura Haddock, Tyrese Gibson, etc. A nice action movie to animate a little the summer and push us to reach cinemas in spite of the good weather!

Amytiville: The Awakening, in July (no exact date yet)

Ah ... summer, beach, sun, sea and ... its horror movies! July 2017 will start with Amytiville, The Awakening. Far from being just another remake, this is a kind of sequel: in 2017, a woman and her three children moved into the house without knowing its history. We can already imagine what will happen to this new family in the famous house of the devil. We start on a modest cast and a director who has already made some thrillers. One can be optimistic for this summer horror movie ...

Spider-Man: Homecoming, July 12th

Youhouuuu, Spidey is back! Tom Holland has left us see a brief overview of his Peter Parker last summer, in Civil War, and he returned in 2017 for a solo film. His interpretation was quite different from others, since the seriousness of Tobey Maguire and a bit lighter version of Andrew Garfield gave way to a Spidey much younger and more "funny". He seems to discover his powers and be more amused by them than impressed (or aware of its responsibilities). He is, this time, coached by Tony Stark, and we can therefore expect a film rich in emotion and action! Directed by Jon Watts, the movie will feature new faces, as Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Batalon Jacob, and of course Robert Downey Jr. Homecoming will be in theaters by the middle of summer, and I do not know about you, but I look forward to it!

Valerian and the City of Planets Miles, July 26th

Luc Besson, is a little like a French James Cameron. It does not always realize the films that most pleased him, but when he does, you can expect beautiful monuments of cinema. Also, in 2017, EuropaCorp have left him “carte blanche” to make the film he wanted ... and he decided to adapt a French comic, Valerian and Lauréline written by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres. The story takes us in 2740. Valerian and Laureline are two space-time agents. Aboard their ship the "Intruder", they crisscross the space and time to accomplish the various missions entrusted to them by the Central Power. These heroes will be interpreted by Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne with alongside them beautiful names like Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, but Rihanna. The trailer takes us into a futuristic world totally amazing, and the adventure of the hero's totally awesome air. In short, we can expect the new Luc Besson with great anticipation!

Planet of the Apes - Supremacy, August 2nd

It seems that here too we are dealing in the latest installment of the saga (which is actually a prequel to the old movies ... you follow?). The synopsis announces a program loaded in action : Caesar and the apes are forced to fight a battle they do not want humans against an army led by a ruthless Colonel. The Monkeys are experiencing significant losses and Caesar, in his quest for vengeance, will have to fight against its darkest instincts. After a journey that will lead him to a confrontation with the Colonel, the Monkeys and Humans will fight a war without thank you at the end of which one of the two species survive - and rule the planet. Even if one already knows the outcome of this war, we can expect a very good blockbuster. Directed by Matt Reeves, starring Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Judy Greer, Steve Zahn and Terry Notary, this Supremacy promises us surprises !

Annabelle 2, August 9th

I do not know about you, but personally the first film about the famous cursed doll completely conquered me. Also directed by David F. Sandberg, and produced by the excellent James Wan, this new opus of what will surely be a small trilogy takes us to the heart of the origins of the doll. Annabelle 2 tells us that after the tragic death of their daughter,a doll maker and his wife collect a nun and all young residents of a devastated orphanage. But this little world is soon targeted by Annabelle, manufacturer creature possessed by a demon ...Unfortunately, this happens long before the Warren could intervene to prevent Annabelle of making more ! With Miranda Otto, Anthony LaPaglia, Stephanie Sigman and Lulu Wilson (which was especially seen in Ouija: The origins of evil), Annabelle 2 will surely be one of the horrific movies of summer, and will make us jump more than once on our cinema seats!

Blade Runner 2049, October 4th

Definitely, 2017 is also the year of sequels! Blade Runner takes the adventures of the 1982 film, but obviously a few years later. Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas and Robin Wright in 2049 may recall memories to fans of the first hour, and to discover a beautiful thriller with new faces ready to discover the plot. We do not know any more for the moment, otherwise it will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, but you can expect a beautiful breathless action film for the fall!

Kingsman: The Golden Circle on October 11th

Kingsman is a little sarcastic blend of Mission Impossible, James Bond and a teen movie. The first film in 2014 made rather good impression to the audience, and this is why our hero in suit and tie is back in 2017. The synopsis says that after the destruction of Kingsman headquarters, Eggsy and Merlin will be forced to join the agency Statesman, their American counterparts, to save the world. We always follow the young Eggsy Unwin in his adventures, performed by Taron Egerton, but new familiar faces will come into play, since the cast provides the appearance of Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, Mark Strong and Elton John! We can expect a lot of action in the autumn ...

Thor: Ragnarok, October 25th

If I broke some sugar on the back of Logan a few minutes ago, know that I do not appreciate much this third installment of Thor either. Finally, of course, the film will without a doubt be exceptional, because Marvel has rarely disappointed us in recent years, but in the idea, I'd rather see a movie about another character, rather than a third part of a hero that we already know well. Obviously, there is much to say about all the Marvel heroes, because their worlds are rich and extended, but damn, can we just try to talk about other characters? We don’t need two more hours about that god/extraterrestrial, but we wouldn’t refuse to advance the film of Captain Marvel, or even learn more about Doctor Strange for example, right? Anyway, Ragnarok will be directed by Taika Waititi, to whom we owe also Green Lantern. The cast includes necessarily Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett and Mark Ruffalo. And we already know that Doctor Strange will visit Thor, since Benedict Cumberbatch appears in the cast (and the end of his solo film already told us about his meeting with the son of Odin), which is quite promising! In sum, we can still expect a very good movie Marvel (and I personally hope that this will be the last of the series) ...

Insidious 4, November 1st

Ah ... What would be the autumns without their lot with fear and horror? So after Halloween, we will have a fourth movie of Insidious, directed by Adam Robitel, who notably directed the last Paranormal Activity but also the first X-Men (2000). We obviously find the actress Lin Shaye, in his role of Elise, the medium, but also discover new faces, with Josh Stewart, Kirk Acevedo, Spencer Locke and Caitlin Gerard. In sum, I do not know about you, but that's the kind of horror movie that I look forward, while decorating my apartment with cobwebs and human limbs ...

Justice League, November 15th

With this release and Wonder Woman’s release, I feel that this year, Warner and DC really answered my prayers. Justice League finally displayed on large screens, and it seems to be for the best, since it is the great Zack Snyder at the controls! Obviously we will find Superman (Henry Cavill), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Batman (Ben Affleck), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and they will face a monster more powerful than what they expect ... in short, a very good superhero blockbuster as we like. We just hope Warner Bros will stop its tendency to leave incomplete films in theaters and then sell us a long version (full, actually) a few months later ...

Star Wars VIII, December 15th

I think fans of the saga pretty bubble for this new movie after the success that Rogue One had in theaters. This sequel will be directed by Rian Johnson, who notably signed numerous episodes of the series Breaking Bad, but Looper, in 2001, and we obviously find Daisy Ridley, Jason Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie and Benicio Del Toro. According to the latest rumors, Carrie Fisher had already shot her scenes for the new film, and she is always "part of the cast," if we look at IMdB, but it will still be with a heavy heart that we will reach cinemas in December ...
RIP Princess Leia ... You joined the force now ...

Carrie Fisher en 2016

Jumanji, December 27th

As we said, 2017 is the year of the suites ... and reboots! Thus this year will return the famous mysterious game, and his secret world. The film is directed by Jake Kasdan and the cast include Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Morgan Turner and even Nick Jonas! We do not know more at the moment but we can be sure it will be a very good film of adventure and action, which will remind us of good childhood memories ...!
