Released in November 2015, the Fallout 4 game of Bethesda has many similarities with the work of Matt Groening of which here are the main ones.
In the year of grace 1999, a young pizza delivery man named Philip J. Frye finds himself cryogenic on 31 December following a questionable joke. A thousand years later, on the eve of the year 3000, he finally wakes up and discovers a new world, rebuilding on the ruins of several centuries of war and extraterrestrial invasion. By making him in the town center he knew, he met Bender, a twisting robot a bit suicidal who would become his best friend. Here is the summary of the plot of the first episode of Futurama which was broadcast on March 28, 1999 on the FOX.
Concerning Fallout 4, the game takes place in 2077 at the dawn of a nuclear war. The player and his family to survive the bombardments take refuge in an atomic shelter of Vault-Tec in order to be cryogenized. 200 years later, the player wakes up and discover a new world in ruins. In returning home, he will meet Codsworth, his old robotic friend who did everything he could to protect his owner's house for all his years.
Some time later, in search of a member of his family, Philip J. Frye discovers the existence of Professor Farnsworth, his great-great nephew, 160-year-old scientist of genius and founder of Planet Express.
As for Fallout 4, the player will have to go in search of his missing son. When he finds him, his son is biologically older than he and a scientist at the head of the Institute.
In short, their loved ones are supposed to be younger than themselves but find themselves biologically older than the protagonists.
In Futurama, Leela leaves his job with the police to join Frye in his adventures while in Fallout 4 it is Piper, journalist in Publick Occurences who leaves his work to accompany the player.
All of its commonalities are certainly a coincidence although statistically unlikely. It would seem that the writers were inspired voluntarily or not by Futurama.
And you, do you have any other ideas like this one on a license that would have the same scripting scheme as another successful license?
