It's official, Peter Capaldi will exit the longest-series-of-all-times after the next Christmas special !
For months we heard rumors about it, but now the actor himself has confirmed the news, on Twitter : "It will be my last,” says Peter Capaldi of the upcoming season. "This will be the end for me… I feel it’s sort of time for me to move on to different challenges.” So we will, of course, watch this tenth season with emotion. This season will be released on April 15th on BBC, and will make us meet the new Doctor's companion, Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie.
Capaldi's departure will follow Steven Moffat's, one of the oldest showrunner of the series. He will be replaced by Chris Chibnall, to whom we owe Torchwood (a Doctor Who spin-off focused on Jack Harkness and his team's adventures). So we can expect that 13th Doctor's identity will be revealed before the end of this year !
Nevertheless, showrunners have said that the series will change for the eleventh season, and that the next Doctor will be chosen on a more "demagogue" way, in order to revive the show. I think we can expect a 13th Doctor between a Matt Smith and a David Tennant (as the series has known its golden ages during their performances...). The more audacious thought about Eddie Redmayne for that part, nothing short of Newt Scamander's actor in Fantastic Beasts, and the actor himself said he would be honoured to play the last Time Lord... So we can cross our fingers, waiting for the BBC to tell us who will be our 13th Doctor...
